Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
